2011 Belguardo Tenuta Maremma Toscana

The highly esteemed Mazzei family, owners of Castello di Fonterutoli, recognized the potential in the area where the Belguardo estate resides. Today, the Mazzei family has reaped the benefits of the Belguardo Estate’s growing area, where Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are grown successfully. The Belguardo Maremma is a rustic blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, which has been aged 18 months in French oak (70% new) and 10 months in bottle. A deep ruby red with purple highlights, it emits bold notes of dark fruit, smoke and toast, with hints of spice on the palate.

ABV % = 14

Tuscany is one of Italy's most recognized and beloved wine regions, and the red Sangiovese grape rules here. Within Tuscany, great Sangiovese-based wines can be found in a diversity of styles from Chianti, Chianti Classico, Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Morellino di Scansano, Carmignano, and Vino Nobile di Montapulciano. It is also here where the great "Super Tuscans" were started, in the area of Bolgheri. These tend to be comprised of Sangiovese blended with international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Syrah. Tuscany is also home to great white wines such as Vernaccia di San Gimignano, and sweet wines called Vin Santo.
