2013 Château de La Mulonniere "L’effet Papillon" Savennieres

Château De La Mulonnière is a historic wine estate; producing wines from the Loire Valley’s most prestigious appellations since the 1860s. In 2002, the Saget family took over the estate, converting to sustainable farming practices, further enhancing the beautiful simplicity of this terroir. This 100% expression of Chenin Blanc is golden in color, with a nose of white peach, honey, and a kiss of oak and vanilla. A touch of acidity keeps everything in balance and provides a long and lasting finish.

Terroir, power, elegance, and the ability to age combine to make this the most unique of all the regions in the Loire which grow Chenin Blanc. These wines are know for their dominant bruised-apple character, gravelly texture, and the flavor of chamomile which rounds out the palate. Sometimes these wines also take on a slight ginger or saffron note, coming from botrytis, and they can be powerfully acid-driven. In their youth they have freshness to balance this incredible spectrum of naunces. With age (and they do age!), they take on more dried fruit, honey, and herbal tea character.
