2013 Dom. Bertagna Vougeot 1Er Cru Clos de La Perriére

This "monopole" or vineyard site owned solely by Domaine Bertagna, enjoys a prime location neighboring Grand Crus Clos de Vougeot and Musigny. Vines are up to 86 yeras old, enjoying well-drained and stoney limestone soils complimented by rich, mineral clay deposits. Slow and steady vinification takes place in thermoregulated tanks using natural yeast. Manual punch-downs extract maximum color. The wine is elegant and subtle yet complex. It changes with age, often expressing floral aromas when young that progress into toasted almonds and coffee with age.

Vougeot is a village in Burgundy’s Côtes de Nuits which is most famous for the grand cru Clos Vougeot. This Clos houses the famous Abbaye de Vougeot, where much of the original winemaking in Burgundy began. The wines of the Clos are characterized by power and richness, but carry a distinct and compelling candied fruit element. Outside of the Clos, one can find the incredible village and premier cru wines that show a bit more elegance than the wines of the Clos, and can sometimes be compared to Chambolle-Musigny.
