2014 Dom. Coffinet-Duvernay Chassagne-Montrachet 1Er Cru Les Caillerets

$89.00

The intimate Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay covers 7 hectares across the Chassagne appellation in the southern Côte de Beaune. The vineyards of the Les Caillerets are 70 years old, concentrating the flavors of limestone rocks, called “cailloux’ that dominate the terroir. The end result is an intense mineral driven wine, where notes of wet stones mingle with an old-vine concentration of ripe pear, apple, and subtle nutty tones. Beautifully paired with game or mushroom sauces. Coq au Vin anyone?

Chassagne-Montrachet

Chassagne-Montrachet is a village in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune which is famous for great Chardonnay. Originally named Chassagne-le Haut, in 1879 it was changed to reflect its most famous grand cru vineyard, Montrachet. Within Chassagne there are also the grand crus of Bâtard-Montrachet, and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet (Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet are shared with the neighboring village of Puligny). There are also 48 different premiers crus in Chassagne, as well as the village wine labeled as “Chassagne-Montrachet.” Chassagne wines are known for their richness and smokiness, influenced by a combination of limestone, sand, and gravel soils.
