2017 Pfaffl Zweigelt Vom Haus

Weingut Pfaffl signifies family; founded in 1978 by Roman and Adelheid, the winery is now run by second generation Roman and Heidi. What began as a simple farm with just 2 acres of vines has grown into 270 acres covering different soil types and microclimates in the wine region surrounding Vienna. The house red wine of the Pfaffl family is classic Austrian Zweigelt: juicy cherry fruit wrapped in velvety tannins. Great for everyday drinking and the perfect pizza wine!

Austria has emerged in the last few decades as one of the great wine producing countries of the world. In terms of whites, the savory, citrus lime-driven wines from the local Gruner Veltliner and the dry, mineral-laced Rieslings are truly stunning. Top regions for these varieties include Weinvertel, Kamptal, Kremstal, and Wachau. There are delicious red wines to be found as well from varieties like St. Laurent and Blaufrankisch, primarily in the Burgenland region. Generally medium-bodied with vibrant fruit, these reds are reminiscent of high quality Beaujolais-Villages wines.
