Austria
Austria has emerged in the last few decades as one of the great wine producing countries of the world. In terms of whites, the savory, citrus lime-driven wines from the local Gruner Veltliner and the dry, mineral-laced Rieslings are truly stunning. Top regions for these varieties include Weinvertel, Kamptal, Kremstal, and Wachau. There are delicious red wines to be found as well from varieties like St. Laurent and Blaufrankisch, primarily in the Burgenland region. Generally medium-bodied with vibrant fruit, these reds are reminiscent of high quality Beaujolais-Villages wines.
