2017 Recanati Upper Galilee Merlot

Grapes for Recanati’s Merlot are grown in vineyards set in the hills of Jerusalem and the Upper Galilee, where the diverse soil composition, ranging from deep red alluvial loam to porous marl, lends the grapes an intensely fruity character. The smooth texture and ripe tannins in this Israeli Merlot has gained a lot of popularity in the market, and with just one sip of Recanti Merlot, you’ll understand why.

Upper Galilee

Upper Galilee is located in Israel, north of Tel Aviv. It is often compared to California's Sonoma County in terms of climate, soil, and geographic location in relation to the ocean. Naturally, a lot of the same grape varieties grow here, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Sauvginon Blanc. Mediterranean varieties, like Syrah, Carignan, and Petite Sirah, also grow exceptionally well here.
