Weinviertel
Weinvertel, named for Wien or Vienna, is one of the rare wine regions that is located within the capital of a country. Many of the wines here are consumed in the local "heurige," or wine bars, upon release. The white Gruner Veltliner and Riesling and the red St. Laurent and Blaufrankisch are the primary grapes of the region. Weinvertel whites are lean and racy, with a notable freshness. The reds are similar to the great wines of Beaujolais, with aromatic, pretty red fruits, and delicate floral elements. Both white and reds become incredibly complex with age.
