2021 Dom. Coffinet-Duvernay Villages Les Blanchots Dessous

Les Blanchots Dessous sits slightly lower on the hillside, adjacent to the famous Grand Cru vineyard, Le Montrachet. This "village" wine may be one of Burgundy's greatest secrets as this Chardonnay retains many of the same characteristics of its more famous neighbor. Herbal notes of mint and thyme mingle with earthy truffle, mushroom, and a concentration of apple, pear and tropical fruits. Rounded off with a kiss of honey, this is a wonderful wine to pair with strong cheeses such as Burgundy's famous Epoisses.

ABV % = 13.5

Chassagne-Montrachet is a village in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune which is famous for great Chardonnay. Originally named Chassagne-le Haut, in 1879 it was changed to reflect its most famous grand cru vineyard, Montrachet. Within Chassagne there are also the grand crus of Bâtard-Montrachet, and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet (Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet are shared with the neighboring village of Puligny). There are also 48 different premiers crus in Chassagne, as well as the village wine labeled as “Chassagne-Montrachet.” Chassagne wines are known for their richness and smokiness, influenced by a combination of limestone, sand, and gravel soils.
